Boondocker’s Welcome
We met John last night. John came out here from Hawaii and bought just under 9 acres. Advance NC is gorgeous! John’s spread is magnificent. John’s hospitality is top notch. After a hectic day of driving through Raleigh, Greensboro and the like, our nerves were frazzled and this Boondocker’s Welcome was just the place we needed to be. Right now I’m listening to song birds while watching the sunrise in the east. One if those birds is dancing on one of my solar panels! While I haven’t heard any roosters, I may have heard a donkey braying just before dawn.
Leaving Ocean’s RV Resort in Holy Ridge wasn’t a big event. There was no “we’re going to miss this place” nostalgia. Jan Baby and I are anxious to get back to Colorado and start moving into our newly purchased ranch. We call it the Micro Ranch, since it sits on a mere half acre, though that is a half acre of prime North County Road 27 in Loveland Colorado. Our back yard is the Big Thompson River, Estes Park and of course, Rocky Mountain National Park.
We had a lot of good times at Ocean’s; swimming in the pool, enjoyed cocktails in the bar one night, not having to drive to a laundrymat, and best of all, meeting new friends and fellow full timers who also were passionate about pickleball. Yes, you guessed it, Baja Fogs at fog thirty most evenings. We do reccomend this resort, though caution you to get a spot furthest from the waste treatment plant that borders the property! Naw, it wasn’t a big issue, and only and issue when the wind would shift from its normal on shore direction and come out of the north east. The Oceans staff were fantastic. There is always somebody on duty with a cheery disposition who is eager to help. Oh, and Amazon deliver’s to the office, making it very convenient indeed!
We’ve got two more Boondocer’s Welcomes coming up in as many days (nights). We’re coming across the country at the fastest pace yet for us. We’re still trying to limit drive times to 3-4 hours. In hind sight, when traveling where the destination is more important than the stops along the way, one might be better off making three hours in the morning, taking a lunch break, and knowcking off another three hours toward evening. You’ll still get to your evenings camp spot with pleny of daylight to setup the rig. The way we have it going now, we end up sitting around in the mornings without much going on. We don’t wan’t to arrive early to the next Boond0cker’s Welcome, only to hang out in the rig and scroll our phones. There is so much to learn and so little time. Interesting, as we are now in year three of our full time adventure, we are still learing new tricks and techniques.
