J & F  OTR (Jan & Flash Over The Road)

Jan and Flash are in their 5th Wheel RV wandering around the US for a year.  Catching up with them…

Notes from the road…

Visiting Garden of the Gods, Longs Peak and the Royal Gorge.

Big Place & Lots ‘o Land

So big in fact that there are a bunch of tent sites that have gone the way of the dodo, though some interesting decaying picnic tables to explore. The roads are rocky and uneven, except where some road base was spread out on them. They put “the big rigs” on the perimeter where your up above it all, though at the time we visited I needed FWD to haul my 12K over loaded Reflection fifth wheel up to my site, and again when backing in to hook up before leaving. Then there was the dump station. No water?! Didn’t get to rinse my black tank so it’s sensors are obstructed and reading full; again 🙁 To be fair, the site we had was full hookups and ostensibly I could have done the job there, if the sewer was anywhere close to my fittings. It wasn’t 😛

Bathrooms and showers are old school, clean but ancient. The store is cute with just the right amount of nick-knacks. Sites that we saw were level and there is plenty of room between rigs.

There are permanent sites there too, though it really isn’t a big deal, and they are off to one side on their own. Overall, or stay was uneventful, quiet, comfortable and secure. Jan Baby (the DW) kept mentioning how we may have gotten better value in a state campground. If I were to return, I’d shop around.

The Golden Eagle (we didn’t see any) is close enough where it was no big deal to visit Pike’s Peak, Garden of the Gods, Manitou Springs and the Royal Gorge.
